Error - 'An Error has occurred in the script on this page'

This error actually comes from your internet browser and systems on the PC.

When you are entering information such as date parameters for a crystal report, your system uses the same pop-up technology that is used in browsers and you can see this error if pop-up have been disabled in the internet options on the PC in question.

You may also see this issue when opening Dimensions if you application is set to show a browser background, as again, this uses browser technology.

You will need to raise this with your IT as the following will need to be checked on your PC:

  • Internet security options: Check that pop-up blocker is not turned on, and that the security options are not set to high (a high level may prevent Dimensions using the relevant processes).

  • Your system does not have a pending Java update

  • Your system does not have a pending Windows Update

  • The files in the Business Objects folder (this is a part of crystal reporting and is usually located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects) are not working correctly and need to be replaced with a working version (usually from another PC).

  • Try clearing the browsing history on your browser.

Please note that the above does not cover all of the causes of this issue - just some of the most common causes. We would further recommend working with your IT to check the security options and processes on your PC with one that does not have this issue.

If the error message contains this message: 'file:///C:/users/[USERNAME]/AppData/Local/temp/prompting1.html', try below steps:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\crystalreportviewer115 on a working machine and take a copy of the 'Prompting' folder

  2. On the non-working machine, rename the 'Prompting' folder

  3. Drop the folder from step 1 into C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\crystalreportviewer115 on the non-working machine

  4. Ask user to test
