Schedule and take a backup using Dimensions Administrator

To follow the steps below and take a backup, you need to have Dimensions Administrator installed on your PC.

If this isn’t the case, please speak to your IT team first and they can provide you with the installation file.

📌 Note: Ensure all users are logged out of the database before taking a backup.

Take a backup

  1. Click the database you want to back up.

  2. Click Backup Database, then click Add Backup Name.

  3. Enter a name for the backup, then click the green tick icon.

  4. Click Yes or No to the message depending on whether you want to run the backup immediately.

  5. Click Backup Now, then click the green tick icon.

  6. Click Yes to the warning message.

You can also schedule automatic backups. Speak to your IT team first — scheduled backups may interfere with existing processes or disk space.

Note: Scheduling backups cannot be done if using SQL Server Express because the SQL Server Agent component isn’t included in those editions.

Schedule a backup

  1. Click the database, then click Backup Database.

  2. Enter a backup name, then click the green tick icon.

  3. Click Schedule Backup.

  4. Add a description and a commencing date for the schedule.

  5. Select which days the backup should run.

  6. Enter the time the backup should run.

  7. To verify database authentication, tick Verify Backup.

  8. Click the green tick icon.

  9. Click No to the message prompt.
