Creating a test database

To create a test database:

  1. Launch Dimensions.

  2. Enter the User ID information.

  3. Below the User ID after entering the User ID information, the user will then see an existing database already connected. Click More >> . A new window appears.

  4. The window that appears will with the following information:

    • User Name: User information

    • Domain: e.g. UK

    • ODBC link: This can be linked to the localised server that the user is currently connected to.

    • Database: This window must be cleared after it is cleared.

  5. Once, the database window is cleared, beneath the database window, click New Database.

  6. Click logon. A New Database Setup Wizard window appears.

  7. Enter the following information:

    • Company Name:

    • Company Address:

    • Town:

    • Country:

    • Telephone Number:

    • Fax Number:

  8. Click Next.

  9. On the next part of the new database process, the New Database Setup Wizard Window, it will show a Default window saying Manual Set-up with Country the company is based.

  10. If the Company is not based in the United Kingdom or Europe. The User can change the setting location by Selecting Change Settings and the Country settings window will appear.

  11. Once, the country settings window appear, the user can enter the Home Country code and currency symbol. After all the information the Country information is filled in, the user must select Accept.

  12. After changing country setting information, User then clicks Next. On the next step, the user can Select Either standard or Advanced Nominal Ledger for the Nominal Structure they would like to use.

  13. The user can select the start of the business year they want to process to begin after this please continue click Next.

  14. If the User would like to enter the VAT Registration Number for the company, they can enter it. this is entirely optional after this please continue click Next.

  15. Then set up the number of decimal places to be used for Price, Quantity and Value.

  16. For the next page, the user can name the database, but including "test" in the database name to make it clear this is for testing purposes.

  17. On the final section, the user can select Finish and then the test Database would now be created for the user to use.

If your company isn't hosted with access and you require the live database copied to the test database then this would need to be a new case raised with a consultant. To raise a new case online and reference the title of this article.
