If there is an imbalance (the Debit and Credit not matching), there could be two possible causes:
The Nominal account(s) turnover Balance up to the Year and Period being run being inaccurate.
A misposting of a transaction(s) to a Nominal account(s).
The Trial Balance consists of the total Nominal turnovers up to the Year and Period run. Which is why, if there is an imbalance between the Debit and the Credit, the likely cause is an incorrect Balance (total turnover figure) being pulled from a Nominal account(s).
Check the Balance(s) for the Nominal accounts on the Trial Balance to verify whether they’re correct by running the Nominal Transactions report for a Nominal Code up to that Year and Period. If the total amount doesn’t agree to the Turnover Balance, the Balance will have to be fixed by Support running some scripts on the database. Therefore please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article and please include details of the Nominal Account affected.
If the Balances are all correct, the problem will then lie with a misposting(s). That is, a transaction(s) was misposted to a wrong account (e.g. Debiting or Crediting the transaction twice instead of once). This will have to be fixed through the posting of a Journal(s) to correct the imbalance.
