Error - 'Unable to Initialise the PDF Printer Driver'

Updated over a week ago

Note: Make sure Dimensions is installed as Administrator and the end user has access permission to the program installed location e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\Dimensions\Accounts\(Your version)

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\Dimensions\Accounts\(Your version).

  2. Run the install application (right-click to 'Run as administrator') It will run through an Amyuni Document Converter setup.

Once this has completed, please follow the extra steps on Error Printer not activated seeing error code -41, -30, -31 in order to Licence, Authenticate and Activate the Access Printers.

If any of the printer errors still occur, or a new error with code '-41' is given, then this will then be due to the Windows user not having the sufficient rights/permissions to control the Access PDF Printers.

If this happens, then please continue with the below:

  1. Log out of Dimensions and all other applications.

  2. Click on the Start menu.

  3. Search for Control Panel.

  4. Choose the Device and Printers option.

  5. Right-click on the Printer marked Access UK Ltd. PDF Printer v4.5 and select Printer Properties.

  6. Note: Administrator Credentials may be required to allow to make changes

  7. Click on the 'Security' tab.

  8. Select the first "Group or user names" that appears on the list in the upper box.

  9. Tick all the options for 'Allow Print', 'Manage the Printer' and 'Manage documents'.

  10. Repeat the same for each group/user name that appears on the list in the upper box

  11. Click on the Apply button, then Ok

  12. Now repeat steps 5 to 10 with the printer named Amyuni Document Converter.

Following all of the above, if Dimensions can use the printer when being ran as admin, but cannot run for another windows user, then this may be due to a Windows conflict causing a bug with the Amyuni driver.
(If this issue persists, please request your IT to follow the below.)

For example, when upgrading a PC to windows 10 from another OS, or even between different Windows 10 editions, the windows upgrade process does not retain permissions on these registry keys, or in some cases deletes these registry keys.
This is a not a deficiency in our product but rather an issue in the windows upgrade process, and Windows 10 is failing to assign the correct permissions.

The default licensing information used by the Amyuni (PDF) Document Converter Printer will write all of the printer information/settings to the (HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG) registry key, and this key is read and written to each time the PDF Converter is accessed.
These keys are also common for all users, and all users of the Access PDF / Amyuni Printer must have at least read/write privileges to the "HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\<Printer Name>" and "HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software" keys in the registry.

NOTE: “Printer Name” is the printer name that the Amyuni Printer has been assigned to.

Ensure to give "HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\<Printer Name>" the “Everyone” group Full Control.
Note: If the key happens to be missing, then it will need to be manually re-created.
