When you first launch the software, before it has been linked to any Database, the Database Selection window is displayed. Select the New Database option to start the Setup Wizard which will guide you through the creation of your Database.

Subsequently when you launch the software a Logon window opens which contains the User ID of the last User who logged in using this terminal's local data file.

You have three attempts to log on. If, after three unsuccessful attempts, your User Account will be locked and you will receive a message advising you to contact your System Administrator. Only the System Administrator will be able to unlock your User Account.

Click on the Logon button, and a progress bar will be displayed while the application is loaded.

Click the Help button to open this Help System to this page.

Click the Exit button to close the software

Enter your 'User ID' and 'Password' and then click on the Logon button to launch the software. When in the 'More >>' view, you can select to log on as a Windows User.

The text on this button is dependant on which view is currently displayed. Click the button to toggle the Change Selection window where you may change the database or open a new one.

By default, the About window will be displayed within the main accounts window. If there are any Diary entries for you, you will be given the option of opening the Diary window.

Users may connect to Access Accounts using Windows Authentication.

Connection using Windows Authentication means that a valid Windows Authenticated User can be permitted to log in to the application without the need of an additional Username and Password.

Only Dimensions Horizons Users who have System Administrator or Security Administrator rights on the Server, can change a User record to use Windows Authentication for logging in to the application.

Windows Authenticated Users are valid Users within the Windows environment. This means that they can log into Windows and have security rights within Windows.

When the Dimensions Horizons User ID is entered on the Log In window, the log in details held within Dimensions Horizons will be checked against the User’s log in credentials for Windows. If the current Windows log in details match a valid Dimensions Horizons User record, the connection will be permitted.

In this situation, the Username and Password fields on the Log In window will be hidden.

The System Administrator should advise Users of any security issues that may be associated with logging in to and using the application as a Windows User.

A Dimensions Horizons User, who has been set-up as a Windows User, may inherit additional rights and permissions from their Windows Log In. This is most likely to be an issue for MSDE users. The Server Administrator should ensure that sufficient security is in place to make sure Windows Users only have the required rights and permissions on the Server.

* The last two roles can be combined.

When using Windows Authentication to connect to Dimensions Horizons, if your Windows Password expires, or occasionally when it is about to expire, you will not be able to log in to the application.

If the SQL Server is not on your User domain, you may find that permission to log in to Dimensions Horizons is stopped before the Windows password actually expires.

This Change Selection window will be displayed when the More>> button is selected.

This window requires your User Name, instead of User ID, and Password or tick the Windows User option to logon using Windows Authentication.

You should enter your required ODBC required link or select the ODBC Data Link to connect to a required database. The lookup button will open a list of existing ODBC Data Links from which you can select. From this list you can also create or modify SQL Server ODBC Data Links. Double click on a link in the list to select it and return to the Logon page.

Note: this field will be populated with the link that was last used to connect to the database shown.

You should enter or select the Database to which you wish to connect. The lookup button will open a selection window displaying a list of existing databases from which you can select.

Note that this field will be populated with the name of the last used database.

If you have more than one Database, and wish to connect to a different one, click on the Change database button to display the Database Selection window:

Select the New Database button to display a Logon window. When you select New Database option, the Logon window is displayed where you can connect to the server on which the database is to be created. The system will guide you through the creation of your database via a series of wizard steps.

When Logging in to Access Accounts, on the Log In windows, if you are using a Microsoft SQL Server Database, you have to specify the ODBC Data Link that you are going to use to link to this.

If you have not yet set up an ODBC Link, click on ODBC Data Link button, and the ODBC Data Links window will be displayed:

Unless you have already set up some other ODBC links, this will be blank.

Click on Insert, and the second Data Links window will be displayed:

Enter a Name for your ODBC Data Source (e.g. MyLinkName).

Enter a Description for this Data Link, or if you wish, you can leave the default.

Enter the name of the Server where your Database software has been installed.

Click on Test, to check that the link has been established, and on the Test Login Details window, enter your User Name (e.g. sa), and Password (e.g. ADMIN).

Note this does not have to be 'sa', as any User with the appropriate Privileges can create Links.

Click on OK to save the link. The Link details will appear in the Data Links window shown below.

Double click on the Data Link entry and it will appear in the ODBC Data Link field on the Log In window that is displayed, with your Administrator User Name and Password entered for you.

You can now click on to Log In using this Data Link.
