Create a data connection for INXL

After enabling inXL using AOI Registration, the inXL tab appears in Excel. Before you can use any inXL functionality, you need to set up a data connection. Follow the steps below.

For detailed steps on enabling inXL through AOI Registration, ensure to check the inXL-related boxes for your user in the AOI Registration tool, save the changes, and relaunch Excel.

  1. Open Excel.

  2. Click the ACCESS INXL tab.

  3. Click Manage Data Connections. A new window appears.

  4. In the Database Name column, use the drop-down and select the database. Note: The databases available on the drop-down relate to the data connections existing in AOI Administrator for the particular user. Before this, set the Connection Type to "Access Dimensions (Hosted)," sign in using your Dimensions username and password, and enter your organization’s AOI hosted server URL in the HTTPS server field (e.g., [ORG]-AOI.accessacloud.com).

  5. Enter a code and a name for this connection. These can be any values, for example Code = 1, Name = 1. Note: The Code and the Name need to be more carefully added if multiple databases are being used.

  6. In the Offline/Connected column, click the cell to change the icon to be a live connection to the database or leave the cell to allow Offline data.

  7. Leave the View options column as Auto.

  8. Click OK. The data connection will be saved and the icons in the main ribbon will become active.

Troubleshooting the inXL Ribbon in Excel

If the inXL ribbon or tab does not appear in Excel after setup, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure that all Excel instances are fully closed before relaunching Excel.

  2. If the Access tab appears but the inXL options are inactive, verify that your data connection is created and set to "Connected" in the Manage Data Connections section. These steps should resolve most issues related to the inXL ribbon not appearing or functioning in Excel.
