Install a service pack

Prerequisites

  • Ensure everyone is logged out of Dimensions. The service pack upgrades the system and cannot be applied while users are active.

  • Take a full backup of the current database. A working backup is essential in case anything goes wrong. Contact your IT administrator if you are unsure how to do this.

  • Take a backup of your library files, for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\Dimensions\Accounts\[Version]\ACCESS.lbr

📌 Note: If you have a modified version of Dimensions, contact your CSM or Account Manager before proceeding.

Recommendations

  • Install the service pack on every machine that runs Dimensions.

Installing the patch

  1. Right-click the Access icon on the desktop and click Properties.

  2. Under the Shortcut tab, click Find Target. The Access root directory opens.

  3. Note the directory path, including the Service folder — for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\Dimensions\Accounts\[Version]\Service

  4. Run the service pack application — for example: WinDmnsAccoSrvPak[Version]

  5. When prompted for the target location, use the directory you noted, for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\Dimensions\Accounts\[Version]\Service

Following the installation

  1. Log back in to Dimensions using the SA username and password.

  2. An 'Update the database' message appears. Click Yes.

  3. A message asks whether you have taken a backup. Click Yes to confirm.

  4. A message warns that no other users will be able to log in during the upgrade. Confirm no one else is logged in, then click Yes.

  5. The system upgrades. This may take several minutes.

  6. Once complete, log back in using the SA credentials.

  7. Confirm the version number matches the one you installed. Click the Dimensions logo in the top left and click About Dimensions to check.

  8. Repeat this process on every machine running Dimensions.
