This message indicates that the SMTP server settings specified in Dimensions may be incorrect (essentially that Dimensions cannot contact your email server). In the first instance, please navigate to the following area in Dimensions:
Select System, Options, System Control Options (ribbon menu) or System Control, Options, System Options (classic/module menu)
Select the System Format tab
Click the blue arrow to the left of System E-mail Defaults
Click SMTP servers
This will show the email server Dimensions is currently set to use. Make a note of these settings and close the window.
Select SMTP users and check the details in this screen - this is how Dimensions will authenticate to the email server that is configured. There are two methods of authentication that can be used here
If you have the Use Default Credentials button enabled, authentication will take place based on the user that is logged into Windows and using Dimensions at the time of sending the email
If you have a user name and password set, then authentication takes place based on the account configured.
Make a note of these settings
You may need to check all these settings with your IT department to ensure they are correct.
But first, and if you have a user name and password set per point 8 then please continue through the steps below:
In Dimensions click on System, Users, select one of the Users who is reporting getting the Error when emailing and click on E-Mail on the toolbar
Remove the E-mail and E-mail name from the User E-mail Details and click the save button
It is possible that the details here are conflicting with the SMTP Server and SMTP User details.
It is also worth checking the Timeout in MS that is set. I spoke to Dev and they advised if the timeout is set for to long Dimensions can ignore this all together and end up using a Timeout that is to small. To check the Timeout you can follow the below steps:
Select System, Options, System Control Options (ribbon menu) or System Control, Options, System Options (classic/module menu)
Select the System Format tab
Click the blue arrow to the left of System E-mail Defaults
Click SMTP servers (The Computer Icon in the top left of the new window)
You will see a column called "Timeout in ms"
This should be set to something around 60000
If you have checked all of these settings with your IT (and in Dimensions) and all have been confirmed that everything is correct, please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article and please include details of what has been checked and tried and the email settings.
