Multi Currency

Multi Currency

A brief overview:

Customers and Suppliers can be designated as:

  • either home currency only,

  • or a specific foreign currency,

  • or all currencies.

Sales and Purchase Analysis records are for one currency only.

Can update any Sales/Expenses Nominals which can themselves be for any currency.

The contra side (i.e. the Control Account) has to be directed at the same currency as the Analysis record.

Analysis Codes are for one currency only.

Bank Analysis records allow posting to any Nominal Bank Account regardless of currency. Separate Sales Analysis records are still required for each currency, but they can update any (or the same) Nominal Bank.

Allocation

Partial allocation is allowed and the difference can be written off automatically as an exchange difference.

For 'any currency' accounts, allocation can be made in a combination of currencies. The home value short/over being treated as an exchange difference and posted automatically.

Note: Currency differences do not post as part of the Exchange Difference Transaction.

Nominal Ledger

Control Accounts are for one currency only.

Bank Accounts can be multi-currency, to reflect your actual Bank Account.

All other Accounts may be updated in any currencies but only from Sales and Purchase Ledgers.

Nominal Journals have to have both sides to the same currency.

Currency Bank Accounts may be revalued from the Cash Book to generate a currency Journal.

System Options

Currency Transfers allow cross posting of currencies.

Setting up Country records and their Currencies now allow Bank, Sales, Purchase, and Discount Nominal Accounts to be non currency specific.

Exchange Difference, Sales Control, Purchase Control and Year End Update are currency specific.

The Creditors and Debtors from the Sales and Purchase Ledgers can be revalued, and a Currency Revaluations exchange difference Journal automatically posted to the Nominal Ledger.

Nominal Accounts can also be revalued, but an auto Journal is not possible from here.

Upgraded data

Because the Nominal Accounts in Country records (set up within System Control in earlier versions), did not have Exchange Difference accounts, on existing data files these accounts will be blank.

Users will need to edit these records, and set an Exchange Difference account for each currency before they start processing.

Without this, entered postings are made to a Suspense account.
