What does Revalue Debtors or Creditors do?

Each foreign currency record offers the option to revalue debtors or creditors. The calculation includes outstanding transactions up to and including the current period, so revaluation is usually run immediately before a period end. The process calculates a new home value based on either the current exchange rate or a rate you enter at the time. The result can be printed for reference or posted as a journal to the default Exchange Difference and Control nominal accounts for the currency being revalued. You can also revalue all currencies using the drop-down option — in this case the current exchange rate is used. Where a journal is produced, you can apply the standard reversing options, as for recurring journals. Journals posted to a control account may cause differences between aged debtors or creditors and control account values, as they do not affect the Sales or Purchase ledger. The reversal option is therefore advisable.

📌 Note: This function does not adjust the original values on transactions or customer and supplier balances.
