RBS Bankline v3

RBS Bankline v3

This information is provided for guidance only; you should always confirm the details before passing the file to BACS software.

Introduction

Scope

The following may be imported to Bankline:

  • BACS payments

  • Bulk list payments (initiation of payments from bulk list templates held on Bankline)

  • Payments from templates (initiation of payments from templates held on Bankline)

  • Currency and sterling inter-account transfers (IATs)

  • CHAPS payments (same-day domestic payments)

  • International payments

  • Templates for BACS, CHAPS, inter-account transfers and international payments

  • Bulk list templates

Old BankLine and Royline formats of payments are not supported in Bankline.

The import file must be in a Comma Separated Value (CSV) text file format.

Data Table Structure

Each import file is described in the data table.

Content of Physical Import File

The fields required for each type of payment are described in sequential order (column A) with their data length (column C, where x=alphanumeric, n=numeric and a=alphabetic) and where applicable the required data format e.g. ddmmyyyy or a list of acceptable values e.g. ‘01’, ‘02’ etc.

The data table further describes the fields required within an import file for a particular payment type (columns E, F, G, H and I). Each combination of data field and payment type shows whether the field is:

  • mandatory – indicated by an ‘M’

  • optional – indicated by an ‘O’

  • conditional – shown by a ‘C’

  • not applicable to this payment type – indicated by a shaded cell.

The data table shows header fields H001-H003 which are optional and appear for each record within the file. If header field H002 is populated on the first record within the file, this value will be used for the filename. Where it is not populated, Bankline will use the name of the import file e.g. VS001-01102006.txt as the filename.

Payments

The payments that may be imported are standard domestic BACS payments, urgent domestic CHAPS payments, currency and sterling IATs and international payments. These are described under column E at section 2.

Payment from Template

The payments from templates that may be imported are standard domestic BACS payments, urgent domestic CHAPS payments, currency and sterling IATS and international payments. These are described under column F at section 2.

Bulk List Payment

The bulk list payments that may be imported are standard domestic BACS payments with a single debit entry and multiple credit entries. These are defined under column G at section 2.

Payment Template Creation

The payment templates that may be imported are standard domestic BACS templates, urgent domestic CHAPS templates, currency and sterling IAT templates and international templates. These are defined under column H at section 2.

Bulk List Template Creation

Fields Allocated for Future Use

Sequential values missing from acceptable sets of values have been allocated for future enhancements to the import file structure.

Some fields are shown as not being used by any payment type within the layout. These fields have been created for future enhancements.

Completion of Fields

Data fields do not need to be padded with trailing spaces to reach the correct number of characters in the field length.

Fields that are populated incorrectly and that are not relevant for the type of payment being imported will not be validated.
