Exporting VAT return summary from Dimensions into Excel

Updated this week

Unfortunately, you cannot export VAT Summary and the 9 box report into Excel, however you can export the Detail VAT Return into Excel using the instructions below.

This guide is written assuming the user is in "ribbon view" within Dimensions. The article will explain how to export a Vat return as a .TXT file instead of a .PDF, this is so the user can then use the .TXT to get the report data into Excel.

  1. On the System tab, click VAT return.

  2. Click the printer icon in the top left of the window that will have opened.

  3. In the next screen click the File icon to the right of the printer icon and click the green arrow and click yes on the pop-ups. An Output screen will appear.

  4. Choose the file path for the file that will be used to import the data into excel.

  5. Click the green arrow icon. The VAT return will be saved as a (filename).txt file in the location selected.

  6. Open a blank Excel spreadsheet.

  7. Find the file that has just been saved and drag the .txt file into the blank excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will be populated with the required data.
