Edit a project code

Updated over 2 weeks ago

In order to edit a project:

  1. On the Costing tab, click Project.

  2. You can either use the Next and Previous arrows, the Find to search for the project by code or name, or could navigate through the list view of the existing projects in order to find the project.

  3. Select the project.

  4. In the main ribbon, click Edit. This will allow you to edit the details of the project.

  5. If required, to change the status, click the current status and use the drop-down and select the new status. A Project Status can be changed as often as you choose.

  6. Once the amendments have been made, in the main ribbon, click Save.
Note: You may be prompted to have the system update the cost centres against the project in question to match the status of the project.

If you are unable to change the status of a project, the error prompted will advise exactly why you cannot.

Notes:
If there are batched transactions which prevents a project code from being set to Active, then the only ways to make a project active again would be either:

  • Delete the batched transactions so they can be re-entered and posted after the Project amendment has been made.

  • The batched transactions could temporarily be amended to use a different project, and then changed back after the required project is made active again.

Alternatively you could use the Reopened status.

Dimensions will allow you to change the status of a project to any of the given options except Complete and Estimate whilst having batched transactions against it, and does give a warning/confirmation request before carrying out the action for you to then save.

If Dimensions is integrated with FocalPoint then this may also be possible from FocalPoint if it does not have any rules that would take precedence over following the Dimensions rule to prevent the action. However for further information on this you would need to liaise with the FocalPoint Support teams. Therefore please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article and please include details of the project affected.
