Works Orders can be opened and edited at any point in the production process.
Open the Works Order Control window from the Works Order Control option and use the Works Order Search to locate and display the Works Orders you wish to work with.
Edit Works Order
Select a top level Works Order in the top pane or a Child works order in the lower pane. Click the Edit function to open the Edit Works Order window.
Edit Works Order window
The upper part of the window contains information taken from the selected Works Order including: Stock Code; Quantity; Start Date; Route; End Date; Sort Key and Priority. Below this, the Notes are displayed.
The lower part of the window contains two tab cards, Components and Associated Sales Orders.
When the Components tab is selected, the components of the Works Order, and any Child works orders, are displayed.
The buttons below the tab enable you to add components, remove components or change the quantity of existing components.
To substitute a different component for one already selected, you should delete the selected item and add a replacement.
When there are Sales Orders associated with the Works Order, the Associated Sales Orders tab will be active and will contain a list of the Sales Orders.
Rules for Editing
There are some rules with respect to the fields that can and cannot be edited.
Start date, Route, End date, Sort Key and Priority can only be changed on top level works orders.
The production quantity of a top level works order can be increased or decreased. It is not necessary to amend the quantities of the components, the system will re-calculate the component quantities when the revised works order is saved.
If the Route is changed, then all stage history from the original route will be deleted. The works order quantity will be moved to the first stage of the new route.
A component cannot be removed from a works order if an issue of stock or labour has taken place.
Additional components can be added to a works order at any stage. The estimated cost of the works order will be re-calculated to include the additional components.
Components cannot be substituted. Existing components that are to be replaced must be deleted. Replacement components should then be added.
When adding Price or Text components, the Labour element tick-box will be available to enable you to specify that the item is to be classed as labour.
The number of 'Components per Single Assembly' can be increased even if the component has been issued from a completed Child Works Order. The additional components can then be issued from stock so that it will be possible to complete the Parent Works Order.
If Sales Orders are de-selected, so that they are no longer associated with the Works Order, the production quantity on the works order will not be amended automatically. If a lower level of production is required, you should change the works order quantity.
