Landed Costs Stock Transactions

Landed Costs Stock Transactions

All the Stock Transactions can involve Landed Costs, if the Transaction Options for these are selected.

Dimensions Only - This feature is not available in Dimensions Lite

Movements

In the Stock Movement header window there are two relevant Transaction Options:

  • Update Landed Costs

  • Adjust Landed Cost Values.

These options will only be available if Sub Analysis has been unlocked.

The option Update Landed Costs also applies to Stock Takes.

The main reason for allowing a Stock Movement to update Landed Costs is to enable users on new or upgraded data files to post their opening balances.

Update Landed Costs

If this option is selected, it will only apply to Stock Codes that have been flagged as Sub Analysis types.

If Stock is moved in to a Sub Analysis Code, with this option set, Sub Analysis Physical Stock is increased accordingly.

This increase triggers the calculation of any Landed Costs associated with that Sub Analysis record.

A Movement in calculates Landed Costs in the same way as POP Purchase Orders

These Costs are also shown on the Landed Cost enquiry on the Landed Cost tab card on the Sub Analysis window.

If a Movement in, is batched, the Ordered in quantity is updated and so the Committed Costs are calculated and posted to the Quantity tab card and Landed Cost tab card.

Delivering the Stock reduces the 'Outstanding to Deliver' quantity, and therefore the Committed Costs.

If a transaction moves Stock out, the Physical quantity is reduced accordingly.

Movement out at the Cost price (default)

Reduces the Landed Cost value by the Average Landed Cost value. This works by taking the Cost Price on the stock movement so that the calculation is (Cost price + Landed cost average) * Quantity

Movement out at the Sales price

Reduces the Landed Cost value by the Average Landed Cost value. Apply the Profit Cost method to determine which costs are used. (Identical to SOP orders - see SOP Transactions)

Adjust Landed Cost Values

The Landed Cost Adjustment OUT does not affect the Nominal Ledger. This means that the Weighted value of the stock will not match what has been posted to the Nominal Ledger. Where the Landed Cost Adjustment is making a correction to an overstatement of the Landed Costs, you will have to manually enter an adjustment to the Nominal Ledger.

Selecting this option:

  • disables the Update Cost Price option

  • changes the transaction Type on the Header to Landed Costs,

  • greys out the Type menu so that it cannot be changed.

  • adds a menu to the Transaction Detail window - Landed Cost Line.

Having selected the Sub Analysis to be used, you will have to select the Landed Cost Line to be used.

You must select a Landed Cost Line before the transaction can be saved.

The Landed Cost Line selected must be a 'Transactional' type.

The menu only displays the 'Transactional' Landed Cost Lines set up for the selected Sub Analysis, with its Description.

If no 'Transactional' Landed Cost Lines exist, you will be warned about this:

"This Sub Analysis code does not have any Transactional Landed Cost Lines. Please select a different Sub Analysis Code". Clicking OK returns to the Sub Analysis field."

If only one 'Transactional' Landed Cost Line has been set up for this particular Sub Analysis, it will be automatically selected.

For Serial Number type stock: as there will be no physical Stock Movement (this is only a Landed Cost transaction) the Serial Number field is hidden.

The Quantity of Stock moved will be 0, and so you cannot tab into this field.

The Price field and drill down are also locked, so only the Total can be entered and this will be the incremental Landed Costs to be allocated to the Stock item.

To reduce Landed Costs enter a Movement Out transaction.

The posting of the transaction will result in a Stock Movement being posted, containing the Landed Costs, which can be viewed in the transaction enquiry on the Sub Analysis record Quantity tab card, as type L.

The transaction will also be written to the Landed Costs tab card with a transactional type of actual landed cost.

Sub Analysis Transfers

Complete a Sub Analysis Transfer in the normal way, but when posting the Movement the Landed Costs are AUTOMATICALLY transferred.

When moving Landed costs FROM a Sub Analysis, use the Movement Out calculation, and then when moving the Stock back INTO the Sub Analysis records, use the Movement In calculation Therefore:

On a Movement Out, the Landed Cost transaction drill down is written to and the Actual Landed Costs values are reduced.

On a Movement In, the Landed Cost transaction drill down is written to and the Actual Landed Costs values are increased.

Sub Analysis Transfers follow the same rules as Stock Movements. A transfer out will be at the Cost Price.

Stock Takes

In addition to the Physical Stock Take, the user may also choose to increase or reduce Landed Costs when posting the Stock Take adjustment.

Once the adjustments have been made, on the posting Update window, there is an option Update Landed Costs. This defaults to being unselected.

As the Physical is involved, Landed Costs will be calculated.

For an increase in Physical quantity, use the individual Landed Cost lines to calculate the Landed Costs (i.e. a movement in calculation).

For a reduction in Physical quantity, the Landed Cost should be adjusted at the Average Cost (i.e. a movement out calculation).

It is not possible to reduce the Stock to less than zero.

Assemblies and Components

If a Movement of a Component is entered as a normal transaction, i.e. not as an Assembly, then it is treated in the same way as any other Stock Movement, POP or SOP Transaction.

Assemblies Movements - System option set to Create Movements

When an assembly is performed and the Components belong to Sub Analysis records with Landed Costs, then the Component's Sub Analysis costs are reduced by:

(Stock cost price + Landed Cost each value) * Quantity moved out.

If the Assembly also goes to a Sub Analysis record with Landed Costs, those Landed Costs are calculated on the Assembly Cost Price.

When a disassembly is performed and the Components belong to Sub Analysis records with Landed Costs, then the Component's Sub Analysis costs are increased on a line by line basis, using the Cost Price to calculate the subsequent costs.

If the Assembly is also moving out of a Sub Analysis record where Landed Costs have been set up, those costs will be reduced by the average Landed Costs.

Assemblies Movements - System option set to Do not create Movements

When an assembly is performed, then the Physical Quantity of the Components is reduced, though no Movement line is created.

If a Component has a Sub Analysis code with Landed Costs then the Landed Costs are reduced in proportion to the quantity moved out.

When a disassembly is performed, then the Component's Landed Costs are increased in proportion. This is the only exception to the normal calculation rules.

Assemblies and Components always use the Stock record Cost Price.
