Error: 'This query has taken too long to process, please add more search criteria to limit the amount of data that needs to be retrieved' (Access Hosted Client)

There are several reasons why a query may take too long to complete and produce this error. If the option is open to you, try providing criteria to restrict the records returned . If that does not work, or is not possible, then consider the steps below.

In the first instance consider limiting the number of transactions returned by the query. To do this:

  1. Click Debtors, Creditors or Financials as appropriate

  2. Click Customers, Suppliers or Accounts/Chart of Accounts as appropriate

  3. Click Transactions

  4. Click the Options button on the toolbar

  5. Enter a smaller number for the Maximum List Size

  6. Click OK

  7. If necessary, use the green Previous and Next toolbar buttons to page through the results


The performance could be constrained by either storage space and/or memory - this should be discussed with your Customer Success Manager or Account Manager.

If the above changes do not alleviate the problem then it will be necessary for Hosting to make some changes to the database configuration so please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article.
