Search for a customer record

A guide to the different ways to search for customer records, covering column filters, the quick search field, and the Advanced Filter panel.

You can search or find specific customer records in several different ways.

You can search for customers using the Advanced Filter search or the search options on the columns or the search field within the Customer Records screen.

Follow the steps below for the different search methods to find or search for a customer.

As an example we are going to use searching on the customer name column, but you can apply the same steps to any other columns that you want to search on.

Find or search customer records using the columns displayed

Within the Customer Records screen there is a way to search on columns that helps to find or search for a customer record, to do this please follow the steps below:

  1. Click Debtors then click Customers.

    • All customer records in your database are going to be displayed for you.

  2. Find the Customer Name column and with your mouse move to the label of the Customer Name column until you see 3 small horizontal lines appearing at the end of the label.

  3. Click on the 3 horizontal lines to open the Filter pop-up.

  4. Click on the Filter tab.

  5. Click on the drop-down menu or arrow to see more filter or search options being offered for you.

    • For example use the Contains option, then enter the characters that you know in the field below.

  6. Click OK.

Note: If you cannot see the column that you wish to search for, have a look at our Configure Columns user guides to help you add or remove any columns.

The screen will only show you records that match your search criteria and on the searched column, you have an orange indicator to show you that the particular column had a search or filter applied.
You can repeat the same steps as above on any of the columns and you can also select different search or filter criteria.

Find or search customer records using the search field on the top of the screen

Within the Customer Records screen there is a search field that helps to find or search for a customer record, to do this please follow the steps below:

  1. Click Debtors then click Customers.

    • All customer records in your database are going to be displayed for you.

  2. On the top right hand-side of the screen, click into the Start typing Customer Name or Name field.

    • When you use this search, please be aware that this is what we call a Begins With search, so you must know the first couple of characters of either the customer name or customer code.

  3. Type in the first couple of characters of the customer name or customer code and while you are typing, you will see the screen refreshing with the records that match the search criteria you have entered in the search field.

    • On this field you can only search for customer name or code.

You can search for the beginning of each word in the available quick search fields, no matter where they are.

Example:

If you wish to search for an Account Name of "The Access Group", you can now enter the words "The", "Access", or "Group" and Financials will intelligently find this result.
Note: This search contains a Begins with search on each word, and is available for the Account Name, Nominal Accounts, Nominal Code, Project Code or Asset Code, and excludes the Header Reference and or Order No.

Find or search customer records using the Advanced Filter panel

Within the Customer Records screen there is an Advanced Filter panel to find or search for a customer record, to do this please follow the steps below:

  1. Click Debtors then click Customers.

    • All customer records in your database are going to be displayed for you.

  2. Click the funnel icon at the top right-hand side of the screen.

    • The funnel icon will have an orange number indicator on it.

    • The Advanced Filter panel opens on the left hand-side of the screen offering you more search options. Each default search field has a drop-down arrow to show you what criteria you can choose from.
